Ariana Grande Responds After Nicki Minaj Decides To Drop 'Queen' Album On Same Day As Hers
2 August 2018, 14:44
Both albums are set to drop on August 17th.
Nicki Minaj has announced that she is moving the release date of her upcoming album 'Queen' to 17th August - the same date as her friend and collaborator Ariana Grande's new album, 'Sweetener.'
The rapstress confirmed the news after revealing that she's waiting for a sample from Tracy Chapman to be cleared for one of the album's tracks. Until then, she can't release it.
What Is Nicki Minaj's Net Worth In 2018?
Upon hearing the news, some of Grande's fans took to Twitter to express their dismay that Minaj would be releasing on the same day as the 'God Is A Woman' singer.
Some voiced their concerns that the pair would be battling for the number one spot, while others suggested that the album be pushed back another week to avoid a potential 'block'.
If Nicki blocks Ariana from #1 I’m gonna be so pissed. She’s been blocked so many times by Drake and now when it looks like she’ll have a clear release day Nicki suddenly changes her release date? I love Nicki but this isn’t it

correct me if i'm wrong but i think ariana has the most antecipated album of the year and there's no competition for her. the pre-orders are doing fine. i love nicki but this era is a mess and she shouldn't change the date bc she's gonna get blocked......

ariana defending nicki, confirming all this for her, dragging her own fans for doing what we are supposed to do and acting like she doesn’t care about charts but liking every single charts related tweet? i’m sick of this

However, Ariana soon addressed the drama in a tweet and shut down anyone pitting their albums against each other.
She wrote, "that’s my f**king sister. she’s clearing a sample. buy and stream queen & sweetener aug 17 bye."
Minaj further backed up Ariana's statement, adding "I love this woman. Can’t wait for the fans to benefit from all the hard work on both ends."

Minaj has already delayed the release once, pushing it back to rescheduled date of 10th August from its original June date.
However, the sample and a feature from Tracy Chapman is yet to be cleared and, after hailing Chapman as "one of the greatest rappers of all time", Minaj personally asked for her permission to use it.
