Taylor Swift Apologies To Nicki Minaj After Twitter Spat Over MTV VMA Nominations
23 July 2015, 16:50
Twitter is feeling really tense right now.
Update
I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki. @NICKIMINAJ

Following the unveiling of this year's MTV VMA nominations yesterday (which you can view in full here), Nicki Minaj took to her social media accounts to announce first, her surprise that her Beyoncé-assisted song 'Feeling Myself' wasn't nominated for any gongs and second, her anger that although 'Anaconda' was nominated for 'Best Female Video' and 'Best Hip-Hop Video,' it was left out of the coveted 'Video Of The Year' category.
Nicki took to Twitter to vent, claiming that she would have been nominated if she was a "different kind of artist."
U couldn't go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween...an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?
— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) July 21, 2015
If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.

If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year

Taylor Swift, who was was nominated for 'Video Of The Year' alongside Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson, took personal offence the the latter tweet and decided to weigh in on the situation, which resulted in a slightly tense back and forth between the two superstars.
@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..

Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13

@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on.

@taylorswift13 I'm still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear... pic.twitter.com/A5kJyi6fQC

I'm so glad u guys get to see how this stuff works. Taylor took her music off spotify and was applauded. We launched Tidal & were dragged.

Nicki went on to retweet a bunch of her Barbz tweets that take shots at Taylor for "making it about her."
nicki was making valid points about the history of racism in the music industry, taylor should be standing by her not making it about her

I'm baffled as to WHY @taylorswift13 felt the need to come at @NickiMinaj for speaking on behalf of unsung black female entertainers..

Believe it or not, there are some things that are so much BIGGER than you, @taylorswift13. You owe @NickiMinaj an apology.

Meanwhile, other celebrities have weighed in on the beef.
Chris Brown posted the below meme on Instagram (although he's since deleted it).
